- ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆In short, this was one of the WORST GROCERY SHOPPING EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE. I went there expecting lower prices, I discovered that they are only equal too, when not more expensive than Superstore. In addition, the owner became very upset when presented with a price match inquiry. They have a lot of expiring baked goods that are marked down %50, so if you can eat 6 muffins within a couple of days, then you can save a buck. That is the only area I can see one saving money here. I was discouraged when I walked out with a small box of groceries that costed $120. It seemed that no items were any less costly than my usual stop at Superstore. I ran over the receipt and compared the items to the Superstore prices posted online. Right away I found 3 items that were cheaper at Superstore. I thought it would be worth inquiring about the price match offer that is ADVERTISED IN GIGANTIC LETTERS all over the building! OH MY was I mistaken! First I was interrogated by both the cashier and the owner who each assumed that I must be mistaken about the price difference, brand, size, etc! Even after I proved the details needed for the price match I was spoken down too, belittled and found myself in a debate. I realized that the person I was speaking too was very upset about the inquiry and she felt the need to repeatedly bark at me that she was " The owner". So I tried to reason with the Lady that I assume is named Tracey. I usually shop at Superstore, I have just moved to the area, I am looking for a better way to shop for groceries. I am new to no frills, I have never done a price match before, and I was imply inquiring about how it works! This seemed to help the tone of the conversation. The conversation went back and forth repeatedly as I MUCH TIME was spent trying to understand what kind of advertisement was acceptable for comparison, what geographical region she would decide was an acceptable distance. Finally,I got a straight answer that Edmonton and Area was acceptable, it could be any advertisement, not just a hard copy flyer. I got back in my vehicle, confirmed that the price was local. The Manager at the St. Albert Superstore was extremely helpful in helping me prove the price difference. Finally, FINALLY, the price match was honored and I was refunded 3-whole-dollars. Let me just say, time is valuable and $3 was not worth it. The cheese went bad in my hot truck due to the time it took to get through it. When I got home I dropped the box of groceries and broke 2 items that costed $9. WHY? A combination of factors. Ranting to my husband the whole drive home about the ordeal, weight unevenly distributed in th le box, lack of balance while 7 months pregnant, a kink in one side of the box and being over-all flustered from the whole situation. Superstore is slightly farther away, but now I know that it is worth the distance to go there instead.By PeteBrittany Neufeld, April 12, 2017
- ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆Almost no organic products at all. There is a lot of products if you need basic stuff, and the sales are good. Line ups are usually kind of long, cashiers are usually good but not overly personable. Always feels awkward when they put your stuff on your side and the next person is glaring at you for not going fast enough. I tend to avoid this store unless I just need a couple of things. ******** Updated review: I've been avoiding this store as I had been getting mediocre service and they just don't have everything I need - why make two stops, right? I didn't want to go into St. Albert so I stopped here again the other day for a basket full of items. When looking at cheese strings, I happened to glance at the expiration date and saw on May 23 that the cheese strings expired April 09, so I grabbed another pack, and another, and another. Of the 5 packages sitting there, 3 expired on April 09 and one expired on April 02. The last package hadn't expired yet so I purchased it. I didn't want to leave the rest on the shelf as I felt they'd like to know when something is 6-7 weeks past the best before date. An employee was restocking the yogurt so I brought the packages over to her. She told me that after she was done with the yogurt she would be checking dates in the cheese section and implied I should just put them back. My first thought was that someone might buy them without seeing the date and I said so and handed them to her. This interaction with the employee was not pleasant or friendly, and honestly it felt like she was annoyed I bothered to bring them to her attention. I'm not sure if this employee is new or old, experienced or not, but for expired product to be sitting on the shelf for that long past the best before date is just not okay. I'm left wondering if either they do not check dates very often, or if they deliberately left them on the shelf this long so they wouldn't have to deal with expired packages. Either way, I will not be returning to this store and will likely never recommend it.By Blaine McCrea, March 20, 2017
